I was delighted to be invited as a judge for Fashions on the Field at the Snake Gully Cup in Gundagai. The brief? Style from head to toe – plus confidence, comfort, and that extra spark that makes someone stand out.
The entrants looked fabulous. Their preparation reminded me that getting event or camera-ready takes more than just a quick outfit choice. Whether you’re attending a function, speaking at an event, updating your brand photos, or for everyday business impact, the same styling principles apply.
Here’s how to look and feel your best and showcase your personal brand with style.
Start with your personal brand image.
Think of how you want to be seen. Is it polished professional, creative spirit, approachable expert? Once you know your brand attributes, it’s easier to create a consistent look that reflects your personality and purpose.
Create your style vision board.
Gather images that capture the look you love including colours, cuts, fabrics, accessories. Even architectural design elements. Notice what repeats. Are you drawn to soft neutrals or bold prints? Tailored or relaxed shapes? This becomes your “look book” for future outfits, events, and photos.
Plan your signature look.
Select colours and styles that complement you and reinforce your brand personality. A consistent colour palette not only simplifies dressing but also enhances your recognisability in photos and media.
Shop your wardrobe first.
Before buying anything new, see what you already own that aligns with your brand image. Perhaps it’s just a new jacket, statement accessory, or updated colour that brings everything together.
Dress for the occasion.
Weather, location, and purpose matter. I too had to prepare well with the temperature forecast before I travelled ranging from 15-25 degrees Celsius on the day! For outdoor events, choose comfort with polish. For the camera or stage, think about how your outfit reads on screen – neat lines, flattering colour, and minimal distraction.
Style with intention.
Well-pressed clothes, clean shoes, and neat grooming speak volumes. Your outfit should fit beautifully and feel comfortable so you can focus on being present and confident. These small touches elevate your presence from good to great.
Collaborate with professionals.
For important events or photo shoots, invest in hair and makeup that enhance rather than overpower. Share reference photos with your stylist so they understand the look you want.
Most importantly – own it.
Confidence is your best accessory. When the camera rolls or the spotlight’s on you, remember to stand tall, smile, and let your authentic energy shine through.
