One aspect of the workshop was a detailed nine point plan to communicate your brand. Over the next few months I will share this with you. As it’s Spring I think this is the perfect time to take a look at both your business and personal brand and perhaps do some rejuvenating. The first instalment of three points is in this month’s feature article. Out now is the new eBook The Power of Personal Public Relations. Order your copy here. Hi Sue, Thank you for the wonderful day. You are very inspiring. Your work shop gave me & other small business owners the confidence & direction to succeed. You treated us all equal in our business venture no matter how large or small the income generated from that business would be. Encouragement sometimes is all some women need & very much appreciate. I thoroughly enjoyed your workshop last Thursday. I'm very passionate about what I do & could tell that you are too! I had a great time at the workshop and the information learnt was invaluable. Thank you so much for your expertise, your time and the energy in which you lead the workshop. Awesome. Many thanks for an interesting, interactive training seminar – you made a positive impact on every person who attended. Thank you. These things are made so much easier when presenters actually believe in what they are telling an audience. Your experience and knowledge certainly showed in your presentation and the way you kept everybody engaged just made for a much more delightful workshop. This first point is where you take a snapshot of your business and the issue or opportunity you would like to use to create a communication strategy. Write a few paragraphs or a summary of the opportunity for creating some brand awareness. E.g. Are you celebrating an anniversary? Have you developed a new product line? Is there a new competitor in your market? To give you an example Illawarra Mutual Building Society IMB celebrated their 125th anniversary. So that was the opportunity – the situation that they decided to create a campaign around. The outcome was they got 35 marquees branded with IMB and made them available to community organisations for events. This reinforced their brand visually plus their brand value of giving back to the community. This can be applied to your own personal brand too. Have you recently been promoted? Looking for work? Moved to a new area? What is your brand situation? Research. What do you already know about the situation? What do you need to know? How can you find out more information?. Do you need to do some mystery shopping? Perhaps a survey of current clients or customers? What websites do you need to research – competitors or others in your market? Arm yourself with as much background information as possible before you begin your communication plan. Audience. Who is your target market? Write up a detailed summary of who your client or customer is? With a personal brand your market may be your boss, colleagues, industry peers? Who do you need to stand out to? You also need to identify the influencers to this audience. Who are the people who can help you reach your target market? E.g. you may a beauty product that you are launching. You have identified your target is women between the ages of 18 -35. You have a detailed picture of who that person is. Who is going to influence them? Is it spas, gyms, hair salons? Write down all those people who can influence. Of course one of the main influencers is the media. This is also where you detail which media is going to help you reach your target audience. Magazines? Radio/ internet? Lot’s more research… Next month I’ll detail further points to help communicate your brand. While in Grafton The Daily Examiner gave us some press coverage. Take a look here. Of course these things don’t happen by accident. I did send out a media release prior to the event. Read further on why it is a good idea to contact the media whenever you have something interesting to say. I had the opportunity to meet Scott Ginsberg – the name tag guy when he presented in Australia recently. I was lucky enough to win the prize of his whole selection of books.
